Today, I wanted to bring you a little artist feature since it’s been a while since I’ve done one! I’ve been following @sliceofclay on Instagram for probably 2 years now, and I’m absolutely in love with their little creations.
This mother-daughter duo works in a couple of different mediums: polymer clay and digital art, and they also create t-shirt designs and enjoy sewing. Their polymer clay journey began 2 years ago when they were inspired by other polymer clay artists on Instagram.
“We thought it would be cool to have something like crafting to do together and we thought that it would be cool to also make our own account and share what we make with the world.”
Fran and Charm find inspiration for their creations from the world around them, from things like flowers and nature, and from movies and shows they love.
“At the start, we did little animal charms, but then we realized that it was hard to craft smaller things ,” they said. “Then, Fran’s uncle said that we should try making a sloth and then after that, we realized that making sloths was going to be our signature thing.”
And let me tell you, Slice of Clay’s sloths are some of the most adorable creations around! You all know I have a healthy obsession with dragons, but I fell in love with these little guys. I own several, and the skill expressed in these sculptures blows me away. They’re so smooth and perfect and cute!
When I invited creators to be a part of what eventually morphed into @pureartcollab, Slice of Clay was on that list for their unique and beautiful sculpts. The color combinations that are used for these creatures are super whimsical—everything from a rose gold color to a bright, deep blue. They have standard sloths, and then they also do ones with more details like rhinestones or flowers.
One of the ones I own has a pumpkin theme (which I’m kindddddd of obsessed with): it’s orange with pearly facial features and little leaves around its body.
“Obviously we love sculpting sloths, but we also enjoy sculpting things like flowers even though those take a while .”
You can find this duo in a couple of places. They have their main account on Instagram, @sliceofclay, and then they also have a sales page, @sliceofclaycrafts. Fran also has an account for her own artwork, and you can find that under @clusteroflilies on Instagram as well.
