Crochet a decrease stitch (dec)

Similarly to an increase, a decrease takes away a stitch in the round. This is done a little differently, however. There are different ways to decrease, but this technique is known as the invisible decrease; it blends into the stitching.

  1. With 1 loop already on your hook (from previous stitch), insert hook in the front loop only (FLO) of the next stitch. One loop on crochet hook, inserted in front loop only
  2. With 2 loops now on your hook, insert hook in the FLO of the next stitch (you’re picking up loops from 2 different stitches).One loop on hook, 2 front loops on hook
  3. With 3 loops now on your hook, YO and pull yarn through first 2 loops.
  4. YO and pull yarn through last 2 hoops. Decrease created.Finished decrease stitch
