I promise this won’t become a habit; I had such fun plans for this round of Pure Art Collab themes celebrating Marvel, but I was invited to participate in a really special event, and I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity!
Luckily, for said event, I was able to still create a dragon that lined up with one of the themes, so today I’m here to bring you a recap.
As always, I want to thank everyone who participated in our collab this time around! We had some new creators participating, and it was wonderful seeing what everyone made.
I want to preface by sharing a little about the decision-making for this sculpture. This little guy will be available as part of a special charity event hosted by Kansas of @gethammereddesigns. She is putting together a wonderful charity auction to raise money for No Kid Hungry.
As part of the auction, she is collaborating with 10 different shops to create OOAK fandom-inspired sets. Kansas makes awesome handstamped jewelry, so every set in this auction will have something from her shop and something from one of the other shops!
For my contribution, Kansas and I decided to do another line of snuggling sleepy dragons with little plushies, sort of like my Hogwarts houses set from last year.
Thor
I decided to go for a fairly traditional color palette for my Thor-inspired dragon. I looked up reference images from both the movies and the comics and settled on this:
Inspired by the friendship between Thor and Rocket from the movies, we thought it would be cute to have this little Thor dragon snuggling with a plush Rocket.
This was my first time attempting a racoon, but I think he turned out cute! I made him from different shades of brown clay and then painted on a dark blue suit once he was baked.
Besides the Rocket plush, I wanted to add Mjolnir as an accessory. I realize Stormbreaker is his newest weapon, but the hammer seemed like a classic choice.
Originally, I was going to have Mjolnir curled up in the tail, as if the little Thor dragon was holding onto it tightly, even in his sleep, but it didn’t look like I wanted to, so I decided it would still make for a cute addition to the sculpture, just a separate one.
Annnnnnnnd, if you want to make your own Mjolnir, I made a tutorial showing you the process. Mjolnirs for everyone!
Here’s how the entire piece turned out:
I’ll be sharing the photos of the other 3 fandom dragons later on. This was a really fun set to work on, and I’m so glad to be able to help with this event! If you’re interested in learning more about this event, please follow either myself or Get Hammered Designs on Instagram. 20% of everything will be donated to the organization, and the makers in this event are creating some really amazing and exclusive items and designs.
I hope to see you there!
