I know a majority of you aren’t local, so I like to do a short blog post about the events I participate in to keep you included no matter where you may be! On Friday, I was at the Moscow Artwalk in Moscow, Idaho. This was the only artwalk I did this year since the 2 I normally do are so close together and we’re in the middle of moving. That’s enough chaos in the span of 4 or 5 weeks, thank you .
There were 12 dragons that I had on display. A few of them were from last year, which helped me stress less for this show while packing and moving. I started working on this show in January because I knew I wanted to create primarily multimedia pieces for this show as part of one of my goals for 2019.
The projects
Out of the 8 new pieces I created, 6 of them were multimedia. They included much more planning and time, especially when it came to my Rapunzel dragon. The tower was given some structural modifications to look more like the tower from the movie (on a simpler scale, mind you), and then everything was hand painted (including the roof’s shingles!) before the dragon was even created.
I decided I wanted to make another series for this year’s artwalk as well. A couple of years ago, I made the 4 seasons as dragons, and this year, I have the little floral bowl dragons that my momma helped me with.
I found these cute little ceramic bowls at a thrift shop last summer, and I couldn’t help but be stuck on the idea of putting dragons into them. At first, I was thinking something along the lines of a little dragon curled up and snoozing away in each bowl, but when I showed them to my mom, she came up with a sweet idea.
Each bowl would be themed with a garden item, and the dragons inside them would be snacking on the item. The colors of the bowls inspired the item: blueberries, hibiscus petals, and daffodils. I wanted the dragons to stand out from the bowl, so they were mixed to be a different color that coordinated with the item, and then an accent color on the dragon was mixed up to match the bowl.
The event
For the artwalk event itself, I was working on a big project I started in December. I’ve been sneaking photos of this project in my Instagram stories and in my Facebook group. I had made most of it in January, and then I was put on hold until the weather was warm enough to pour the resin.
I’m going to have a blog post dedicated to this project later, so I’m not going to go into too much detail here.
