My First Elves Box

At this point, I’ve been teasing my first Elves Box on some of my social media, but I hadn’t been able to do a blog post about it until now.

If you don’t know what the Elves Box is, it’s a monthly subscription craft box by Sophie and Toffee. I subscribed for November’s box, a galaxy themed box.

Isn’t the box so cute?? Each box is designed to match the theme which I think is a nice touch. Instead of describing what’s in the box, I did a little sped up unboxing video, another first for me!

I can’t wait to work through the open bezels, but I think it’ll take me a while since there is one for each zodiac sign.

Overall, this has been a really fun kit so far. There was a lot of pieces in this box with a lot of potential for fun projects. It’s definitely something I’d like to get again, as I think the price is worth all of the supplies that come with it.

Another cool thing about the Elves Box is that they partner with other creators to put together tutorials on what you can do with the box, so I loosely follows the tutorial Creative Rachy published on her YouTube channel.

Here are some items I made with the galaxy box:

I wanted to make a keychain using open bezels for my husband and I. I decided to add a chain of resin pieces using the star/moon silicone mold in the box.

Here are the supplies I used for this project. Most of them came from the box, but some extras included the powders for coloring the resin, the UV light, paint, and rhinestones.

I mixed the resin by adding tiny amounts of pearl ex powder to the resin and mixing it thoroughly. A little goes a long way. Be careful with this as using too much affects how the resin cures.

I then placed a base layer of black resin to help make a dark background for the galaxy. Be sure to cure this layer before moving on to the next step.

This was the most fun part of making the bezels. I just started picking colors and dropping them into the bezel. The colors end up running into each other and blending together, but you can help this along by using your toothpick or needle tool to swirl the edges. I used black to separate patches of color so that there was some space between everything.

Once the resin was cured, I used watered down white acrylic paint to splatter stars on top of everything.

And when the paint is dry, you’re ready to dome your bezel. I also added various silver rhinestones at this step for extra sparkle.

Once the bezels were done, I moved to the star and moon resin charms. I made these similarly to the bezels where I dropped in colors to create galaxy charms. Once they were cured, I added some of the color changing powder that was included in the box. I used a hand drill to make a hole in each of the charms and fed an o ring through them so I could attach them to the chain.

And here’s the finished piece on my purse! I used a few things outside of the box, but otherwise all of the accents, findings, and even the resin came with this kit.

What a fun way to take a break from polymer clay and still be creative! What is your zodiac sign? Mine is libra!
