Since we still have some time before Valentine’s Day, I figured I’d dedicate a blog post specifically to some projects I made for a recent themed event at NPNP Auction House on Instagram. The theme was Lover’s Lane, and I decided to create some fun (and brand new) pink themed items. I just think they look so pretty together! I’m a sucker for color palettes though.
Dragon
I knew I wanted to make a dragon for the auction, and I knew I wanted to update a version I made last year. The color and pose was a little different than previously, but he still had a little chocolate box. I positioned him to stand on his haunches and hold the lid in his tail and the box of chocolate in his hands.
The first time around making the chocolate box, I followed a tutorial by NerdECrafter. I broke down what I did this time around, so here’s a quick photo progression.
And then I added some detailing like the ribbon around the top of the lid as well as paint to write “Love” on the lid.
Fairy House
I wanted to make another fairy house after the two Christmas themed ones I made as gifts. This one was much smaller and wasn’t a lantern, but I think it turned out so cute! I wanted it to look like it was made out of chocolate, and then I gave it pink accents.
The roof was my favorite part of this whole project; the shingled look and his pink pearly clay is just so whimsical and pretty.
The first time I made a fairy house like this, I followed Maive Ferrando’s YouTube tutorial, changing it as I wanted/needed to, of course.
Resin Heart-Shaped Turtle
I thought it’d be fun to do a mixed media project, so I decided to create a resin and polymer clay turtle. To do this, I first sculpted a heart-shaped shell from clay.
I then made a mold for the top half and bottom half of the shell. This way i could create a 2-part cast and attach them later.
I imagined creating a striped look to the shell, where the bottom shell was white, and the top shell is split to have a layer of pink and red. Each layer of resin is colored and mixed with lots of different glitters and micro beads.
Galaxy Keychain
I also wanted to feature a resin piece in this collection of Valentine’s Day pieces. I had just made a tone of galaxy pieces from my Elves Box, and I wanted to make one with the same effect but change up the colors, so I used red, pink, and white. The bezel I chose was a circular one that had sakura accents, so I filled those in with pink. Overall, this was a pretty simple keychain, but I really wanted to let the color combo speak for itself, and I think it’s such a pretty mix of colors.
While I definitely want to make more fairy houses and turtles in the future, I think my favorite piece from this little series of Valentine’s Day pieces is the dragon. I love how he’s holding his box like he’s asking you to make sure it’s okay for him to have chocolate. I really like this color palette too; I want to use it for ALL the projects.
Do you have a favorite piece from this series?
